INSTRUCTIONS : 

Realism is an important movement in English literature that developed mainly during the 19th century. It appeared as a reaction against Romanticism, which often focused on imagination, emotions, beauty and idealized life. Realist writers tried to present life as it actually is, with its ordinary people, social problems, struggles and everyday experiences.

The main aim of realism is to show real life and real society without making it unnecessarily beautiful or ideal. Realist writers wrote about common people rather than only kings, heroes or extraordinary characters. They presented characters with both good and bad qualities, making them more natural and believable.

One important feature of realism is the use of ordinary settings and everyday situations. Realist writers often described family life, relationships, poverty, education, work, marriage and social problems. They also paid attention to the social and economic conditions of their time.

Realism also focuses on detailed description. Writers carefully describe places, characters and situations so that readers can easily imagine the real world of the story. The language is generally simple, direct and close to normal speech.

Realist literature also deals with social issues. Writers used literature to show problems such as poverty, class differences, inequality and the difficulties faced by ordinary people. In this way, realism is not only about telling a story but also about showing the reality of society.

Some important writers associated with realism include George Eliot, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy and George Bernard Shaw. Their works present believable characters and situations and often reflect the social conditions of their time.
